Who needs a license. Anyone 16 or older needs a valid Maine fishing license to fish inland waters, or even just to transport fish taken from inland waters. Under 16 is not listed as needing one.

Free fishing days. Maine holds four license-free days in 2026: February 14-15 and May 30-31. Everything else in the rulebook still applies, and the exemption does not cover anyone under suspension or revocation.
